&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;An Astrologer, a Closet Satanist, an Inuit Opera Singer and a WebCast Diva . A typical Berkeley household is forced indoors during an unexpected citywide lockdown initiated by the federal government. Ona, a webcast diva with her own show, thinks the feds are shifting into a fullblown police state. Her roomies think she's paranoid. Havoc and hilarity unravel as they all race to their own conclusions about what they think is happening during their current state of escalating uncertainty.

      <title>Faerie</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/eb1be3de-886b-4558-98c6-b24a90b0050b</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Faerie is the name given to a type of being, a legendary creature or manifestation of spirit often described as metaphysical, extraordinary or unusual. Faeries are commonly thought of as good natured and human-like in appearance but their actions represent a unique perspective from that of the common folk. Frequently, they supplant the mundane routine found in everyday life. Some say they possess a vision of what is possible beyond the mere satisfaction of our existence.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;They are Socrates, Plato and Aristotle; they lay the foundations of civilization and society itself. They are Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Warhol; they define the meaning of art and beauty. They are Alexander, Caesar and kings or queens; those who first united the broken tribes of man. Beyond the ability of procreation they possess the unique new thought or act of creation itself, the very element needed to redefine culture in our minds and lives.

      <title>Two SF screenings of my new film, "The Invisible Forest"</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/e4210cbc-8862-4637-aadf-95f0a16337fc</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;The film I have been working on all throughout 2007, "THE INVISIBLE FOREST", will have two premiere screenings in the Bay Area over the next two weeks (see info below). This film was made without a script though I borrowed text from William Shakespeare ("The Tempest" and "Romeo &amp;amp; Juiiet") and French Surrealist Antonin Artaud; almost all the actual dialogue was improvised. I'll be at both screenings to field questions and maybe add a few more of my own.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;San Francisco premiere
&lt;br/&gt;Friday March 14th, 8pm
&lt;br/&gt;Artist Television Access
&lt;br/&gt;992 Valencia (&amp;amp; 21st St), San Francisco
&lt;br/&gt;Admission: $6.   Filmmaker in person.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Berkeley premiere
&lt;br/&gt;Friday March 21st, 8pm
&lt;br/&gt;Grace North Sanctuary
&lt;br/&gt;2138 Cedar (&amp;amp; Walnut) north Berkeley
&lt;br/&gt;Admission: $10. Filmmaker in person.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The Trailer
&lt;br/&gt;http://www.fractalvideo.com/HTML/IFFV2.html
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;SYNOPSIS
&lt;br/&gt;A theatre troupe camps out in a forest to perform their director's vision of Antonin Artaud's magic theatre of ghosts, gods and spirits. During their forest experiment Alex, the director, is haunted by disturbing dreams where Artaud appears and mocks his theatrical ambitions. When these strange nightmares persist, Alex stops sleeping in an attempt to regain control over his mind. Sleep-deprived and with his sanity pushed to its limits, he seeks help from a Psychotherapist who suggests hypnosis as a means to discover the source of his problems. What follows is a journey through the internal landscape of Alex's subconscious memories and dreams, a sojourn that leads us to a place beyond belief, beyond words, and beyond the mind itself.

      <title>Aberrant behavior-auditions  saturday the 19th 2263 mission (between 18th &amp;amp; 19th) 3:30-6:30 (Also looking for crew)</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/9da4e990-190f-41e8-aef9-037c5289f0df</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm making a film, that will be somewhat explicit in parts. Also, there will be imagery that needs nudity.
&lt;br/&gt;I am afraid that I will not be able to cut the content of the movie script, even if I find actors interested .You can e-mail me with rates, photos, questions, etc. If your an actor or actress who has worked in nudity and/or sexual situations, is comfortable with it, and would like to take on a feature narrative film as a major role please e-mail me or show up to the auditions. The two main roles are the ones that require it but there are others. If you would like to be featured in sequences that do not involve the main characters, but are part of dreamlike imagery you can either show up to the audition, or e-mail me with link to your work. Best place to e-mail:
&lt;br/&gt;theperiodmovie@yahoo.com
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here is the plot:
&lt;br/&gt;Aberrant Behavior, is basically about two self destructive anarchistic-y street kids who have an exaggerated form of pica, a disorder where people feel compelled to eat non-food materials, carpet, dirt, soap, drano, various chemicals, etc. as portrayed as a drug addiction. Who are in a very self destructive relationship, there perfect for each-other except they literally kill each-other by being together. A lot of psycho-sexual/self mutilation-masochism in this one.There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Keep in mind the budget of this movie will probably stay around 25-35, 000 dollars (already secured), so just warning I can't pay the highest rates
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks-
&lt;br/&gt;Jason
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here is the original posting:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have a new movie called "Aberrant Behavior" auditioning Sat. 1/19 3:30-6:3- at the Dark Room SF 2263 Mission off of 19th and Mission@ 3:30 - 6:30. (My first movie "the period" came out through Sub Rosa Cinema can be seen/bought at Netflix www.myspace.com/theperiodmovie as well as various other outlets)
There's more to it, but that's the basic synopsis. If you can't make it to the auditions, you can send me a head shot with resume, or whatever you want. We can then decide when and where to meet.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I will be hiring for many roles, all ages (over 18) races, sizes, etc. But here are the main characters:
&lt;br/&gt;Main Characters:
&lt;br/&gt;Victor Muertos: (Mid to late twenties) Half Mexican/Half white (Half latino/half white will probably work). Black hair, down to chin and five o clock shadow. (Flexible though). Tall and thin but not too thin.
&lt;br/&gt;Dark, brooding, depressed, prone to long winded sarcastic, cynical rants. Living off the state for mental depression, and addiction, but eventually breaks himself from the state. He hates the state, and normal life in general. He hates almost everything. He is sort of sloppy hipster, slightly emo, slight slight slight goth meets street kid. Light or no body mod, piercings, etc. He eventually lives on the street because of choice.He falls in love with Aiko.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Aiko Zumbi (18-early twenties or look like it) Half Japanese/Half German (or Japanese, or half Japanese/Half white). Shorter than Victor, thin but still slightly curvy.
&lt;br/&gt;Street kid with a bit of dark hippie. Has been sexually abused as a child. Prone to violence. Prone to long winded rants, or sometimes just total silence. Dark, cynical, with a very bleak view of life. Body mods, tattoo's, piercings, fine. Dreaded or colored hair fine as well. Actually preffered.
&lt;br/&gt;She falls in love with Victor.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Emma May (20's to 30's) Actress must be thin, because character is anorexic. Very fake, superficial, manic laughing. Very self deluded. She doesn't really see her anorexia as a problem, she think she looks great though she's obviously dieing and goes to extremes to keep herself thin. She is always dressed up elegantly and thinks of herself as a proper lady even when doing something grotesque . She is a head executive at a advertising/pr firm that she gets a Victor a brief job at, through meeting him in a class over there mutual addictions. (Brief Nudity /Partial a few times)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Caseworker Joe (30's-40's) Written has hispanic, but open. Larger guy, tall, built like a shed, a bit fat but not flabby fat. Very coarse, to the point, direct "Take no shit" kind of guy. Very normal, buys into the whole big house in the suburbs, good job, etc. He is Victor's Caseworker, and is tired of Victor's Shit, and believes he is not trying to quit. (None)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Glitters- a gay gangster rapper, take everything that's a cliche and horrible about it and flip it so that it's gay (some, will also need male models)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Pedida Muertos-Victors Mother. A nearly catatonic morally apprehensive drug addict who's always sleeping with random guys and ignoring her child (Some nudity/sexual situations can be negotiated to less)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;And then random visuals, nudes for some flashback scenes (of some sort of psuedo porn the main characer shot) a girl that Victor sleeps with before he falls in love with Zumbi (requires brief nudity/sexuality) and some body part imagery that will not feature the face of the actor/actress, among other thing
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I need before I even start:
&lt;br/&gt;Prostethetics/Makeup- There are many parts of my movie that need gore, ghoulish makeup or creating body casts for dreamlike effect (like a scene where they fall onto the ground and break like porcelain blood-paint spraying out of them creating a heart) but most importantly I need someone who can help make someone look anorexic, eye sockets reccessed , hips sticking out, ribs sticking out, shoulder blades, etc. I can't start without this because it's one of the main characters.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Boom-I have someone lined up for operating boom/mixing sound, but I'm not sure he'll always be available. I need someone who has at least some experience in this to help. I have equipment but having (better?) equipment would be great.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Props- It would be great to have someone who can assist in creating edible (or non toxic) chemicals, substances, materials for the main characters to ingest. It would also free me up to think about other things.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Lighting/ Art Department/ Set Design/Decoration/Locations- I need someone who can do a lot without a lot who can work with unusual materials. Who isn't too expensive or I won't be able to afford you. Also may be able to transform other locations into desired location.Things needed for instance underground bomb shelter turned into run down sorta apartment. Abandoned buildings. Offices. Fashion Show. A sewer, where the characters live in and eat off of trash.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Original posting:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Set Decorators/Builders:
&lt;br/&gt;Though the majority of the movie will be in real locations. There will be a few sets built, and sets that will be decorated to fit the movie. I am looking for people who have experience building sets (theater experience would be great) on a low budget. Resourcefullness in materials is needed (Meaning you can do a lot with not a lot). Building flats, painting, decorating.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Prosthetics/ Make-Up: Though this is not a gore horror movie. There is quite a few instances of gore. People who have experience in mold making, prostethics, sculpture. etc. would be very helpfull. Also people good at making people looking sickly or malnourished through make-up needed. In addition Emma May, the severe anorexic will need added pieces to protrude her brows and jaw, her ribs, collar bones, hip bones, etc to make herself appear much thinner. Actually a lot of make up needs from simple to complex through out the movie.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Vfx-Compositors- Though this will not be a special effects epic, there will be things needed. Good flashy two animations/composting for some of the fake commercials/promos. Possible fire and underwater animation. Some manipulation of the video -color fluctuations, shrinking an enlarging, simple morph effects, color globules to represent visual aberrations in the characters eye-sight. Some 3-D needed especailly those who are good working with modeling human figures. But mostly more simple 2-D basic 3-D stuff. I may do this myself, but send me a link to your work, and I might hire you for the movie.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Props: I will be doing much of this myself, but may need help in re-creating chemicals, materials, such as drano, soap, dirt, carpet, many other instances through-out the script, to create realistic looking edible (or at least non toxic ) substitutes for the substances they swallow.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Mechanical/Puppetry- Not needed for a lot of the movie. But there is a few scenes with Emma Mays giant snake like tape worm that slithers around. Also a scene where skull bowls start vomiting (have to read script to explain) Could do myself, just seeing if anyone else might be interested.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Lighting Designer: Though I will likely take over this role myself, and a lot of the footage will be shoot in the streets style. There will be a few locations that will be staying in for a long while in the script, and would like good, stylized lighting for maximum creepy effectiveness.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Costume: I already have a few people on board for this, but as this movie ends in a big Valentines Day Fashion Show. I am looking for people who could be commisioned for clothing for that event (and other sequences in the movie as well). Also, previously made pieces could work.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Underwater Camera- Anyone who would like to rent me an underwater camera, or who has experience filming underwater, this is needed for a few sequences.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Boom Mic/ Sound Mixer- I already have someone onboard for this, but never hurts to have a second position, or a backup
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Pyro/ Fire Safety/Explosion - This really isn't needed for a lot of the movie. But there is one scenes where a whole room catches on fire (with possible stuntman that catches on fire, I made do this in special effects). There is another scenes where a home-made bomb blows a crack into a wall and makes it crumble. I want these scenes to come off effective and safe.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Security- Not throughout the whole movie, but there will be scenes where I will be filming in potentially dangerous locations, and a climax that will need crowd control
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Legal/ Locations- I will probably do this myself, but if anyone has experience in finding or knowing of great locations, or securing permits for locations. I might be interested in working with you.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Production Assistants/Co-Ordinaters (I am sure you know what this means)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Music- I have most of the music worked out. But a band fell out that I really felt I needed for some sequences. If your music is post -rocky, slow core or has that aphex twin meets godspeed you black emperor I may be interested. The kind of bands I'm looking for: Mew, Godspeed you black emperor, Explosions in the sky, Spiritualized, 65 days of static, Sigur Ros. Also in some music Portis-Heady could work.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks
&lt;br/&gt;-Jason &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Need Original Music For Your Film/Video Projects?</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/d5aedc70-ad83-44c2-9471-05ec627b87db</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;My name is Aaron M.M. Purvis, a freelance composer who recently moved to the bay area. I graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA majoring in Film Scoring. While I thoroughly enjoy writing for orchestral pieces, I am able to write in any and all styles, whatever your project requires. Primarily, I am looking to get to know local film/video makers, and hopefully develop a professional relationship with them. I would be happy to sit down and develop ideas with you as to what sort of dramatic underscore your film/video project calls for, and, before you are committed to my music, I am offering you the chance to send me a clip of your project, which you feel needs music, and allow me to demonstrate how I could enhance it. And if your budget is tight, I am certainly willing to work without remuneration.

      <title>Need songs for your film?</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/9a864bde-d79d-4143-b0f5-53183beb6986</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm a singer/songwriter here in SF, and I'm looking to place my songs in a film. You can hear my songs at: http://www.myspace.com/rachelmargaretmusic. Send me a message if you think any of the songs might work for your film.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I've been told my music would fall under AAA (Adult Album Alternative) or "Alt pop". I'd say I write dreamy, melodic pop with some electronica influences. Some people say they hear a bit of the Sundays in my songs. Others have mentioned Everything But the Girl. My voice sounds a bit like hers, so perhaps that's why they say that.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Two of the songs on my myspace page are from my upcoming album due out later this Spring/Summer-- so they have not had final mixing/mastering yet. The rest are from my EP that came out this summer.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm also playing out live with my band, so come check us out if you have the chance. We'll be at the Hotel Utah on Jan 13th.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Best wishes,
&lt;br/&gt;

      <title>trailer for my new film, "The Invisible Forest"</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/56732ebf-1414-41a6-9b52-12fe7b89806c</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I just completed an indie feature that explores the visions of French Surrealist actor/playwright, Antonin Artaud. The story follows a modern-day theatre director who, while camping out in a forest with his actors, is haunted by a reoccuring dream where Artaud appears. When the dreams persist he visits a Hypnotherapist who guides him into the heart of his disturbed psyche via hypnotic regression. Most of the plot unfolds through the internal ladscape of his dreams, memories and visitations from, what he believes could be, the ghost of Artaud himself.
&lt;br/&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am in the process of setting up screenings in Seattle, Portland, SF and LA over the next six months. It screens in SF at ATA, 3/14&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Screen your film at the Climate Theater</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/562560c0-ed5e-44e8-9c10-21fd3cab1f42</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi,
&lt;br/&gt;My name is yahn soon and I'm curating a local filmmaker's series at the Climate Theater in SF (http://www.climatetheater.com). We're in the infancy of this program, but I'm on the lookout for provocative feature length films (over 45 minutes) by local filmmakers. The Climate is an intimate venue that holds up to 50 people, and it has a great sound system. The movie would screen off of a DVD. The screenings are twice a month on Sundays.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Another aspect to this film series is that we're trying to incorporate live music with the screening, preferably live music that relates to the movie or is performed by the filmmaker. The music would only be a short 30 minute set before the screening.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Please contact me if you are interested. My email is withrom@earthlink.net.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Best,
&lt;br/&gt;yahn

      <description>&lt;div&gt;My new film, a dark comedy called "The Mind is a Liar and a Whore" (2007; 92 min.) screens Friday Nov. 9th at 2138 Cedar Street in Berkeley. This is an old wooden church whose priests allowed me to rent their sanctuary as a screening room. The acoustics are great, the location easy to find and they have a great sound system and projector already installed.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;SYNOPSIS
&lt;br/&gt;Four roommates, a live-in boyfriend and their visiting landlord are forced indoors during an unexpected citywide lockdown initiated by the federal government. Ona, a webcast diva with her own show, thinks the feds are shifting into a fullblown police state. Her roomies think she's paranoid. Havoc and hilarity unravel as they all race to their own conclusions about what they think is happening during their current state of escalating uncertainty.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I have some good news to share. "The Christmas Card", the Hallmark movie I played the diner waitress 'Molly' in, is now available on DVD through Netflix, Blockbuster, Borders, amazon.com and others. Amazon gave us a 5 star rating and has posted some lovely reviews. Ed Asner was nominated for an Emmy for his outstanding performance in the movie earlier this year. Cast and crew are all thrilled! It's a wonderful holiday gift for the entire family.

&lt;br/&gt;Also, A few weeks ago I did a Slingbox commercial which should air very soon during Monday night football. I play a nervous dental patient in this one. Very funny stuff.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hello you guys!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I have been promoting our film madly - I've created
&lt;br/&gt;fliers to post, little 'cards' to hand out to people,
&lt;br/&gt;and I've sent out batches of emails in groups (I still
&lt;br/&gt;have lots more to send out!).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The only way we are going to win is if we ALL promote
&lt;br/&gt;like MAD! Below I have copied the email I sent out to
&lt;br/&gt;the Whaddya group - use it or change it to suit your
&lt;br/&gt;needs. I've attached the flier and 'cards' - you can
&lt;br/&gt;change them or use them as is. Please tell EVERYONE
&lt;br/&gt;YOU KNOW! Make sure they rate it!!! There are many
&lt;br/&gt;problems with the mac site - the main ones that affect
&lt;br/&gt;us are
&lt;br/&gt;1. You can't search by our movie name - it doesn't
&lt;br/&gt;work.
&lt;br/&gt;2. Using the email to a friend function on our page
&lt;br/&gt;sends a link that doesn't work (or it didn't last time
&lt;br/&gt;I checked).
&lt;br/&gt;3. The only thing that seems to work is searching by
&lt;br/&gt;our team name -
&lt;br/&gt;whaddyagonnadoaboutit
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Whaddya Gonna Do About It? team entered the
&lt;br/&gt;Insomnia Film Festival
&lt;br/&gt;Turn 24 hours into a
&lt;br/&gt;3-minute masterpiece
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The list of elements were given out at 9am EST on
&lt;br/&gt;October 13th, we shot at 3 locations, our visual
&lt;br/&gt;effects master Andrew Coggeshall was importing and
&lt;br/&gt;working while we set up for the next shots. I was
&lt;br/&gt;importing footage into Final Cut by 6pm. By 2am I had
&lt;br/&gt;picture-lock and I handed off to John Madden for
&lt;br/&gt;scoring. Dana Jae proved to be the marathan champion
&lt;br/&gt;by mixing and compressing at the wee hours of the
&lt;br/&gt;morning to get it uploaded by 9am EST on October 14th.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It was a fantastic learning experience - and we ended
&lt;br/&gt;up with a pretty cool little movie. AND WE NEED YOUR
&lt;br/&gt;HELP TO WIN!!! There were 3000 entries this year, so
&lt;br/&gt;competition will be tough. You can help by watching
&lt;br/&gt;and rating movies - the 25 entries with the highest
&lt;br/&gt;rating on November 9 at 12:00 a.m. EST will be
&lt;br/&gt;screened by industry professionals, including Barry
&lt;br/&gt;Sonnenfeld, James Mangold, and Nora Ephron. The
&lt;br/&gt;biggest hit with either the public or the pros, each
&lt;br/&gt;member of the team will receive a MacBook Pro with
&lt;br/&gt;Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio, and Shake! THIS
&lt;br/&gt;PRIZE WILL HELP US MAKE MORE MOVIES!
&lt;br/&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey guys, here is my first attempt at a 'special effects" movie. It's a tribute to all of the over-the-top blockbuster movies with crazy effects. I didn't have access to a green screen studio, so I just shot everything in my apartment and had to rotoscope (trace) all the characters frame by frame to get them all in the same shot. Take a look and let me know what you think:

      <title>Seeking Short Comedy Submissions</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/ca4ace11-0096-433e-b215-5dc598fa5f86</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm helping a friend of mine put on a small screening night/festival and we're looking for short comedy. Please send me a message if you have a film that you'd like to submit. We have pretty loose requirements. Your film needs to be: 15 min or less (slightly flexible on that) and funny. If you have a film that meets these criteria, drop me a message and I'll tell you where to send your submission to.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>“The Smiling Man” World Premiere and DVD Release Party</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/4fed0b0e-2fc7-4915-87c6-cb0a1db87add</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;(San Francisco, CA) - Local movie makers Kelp Entertainment are proud to unveil their new detective mystery in a free Noir-themed bash and public screening at 12 Galaxies on the evening of August 7th, 8:00 P.M.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Set in San Francisco, 1948, “The Smiling Man” tells the story of down-on-his-luck private detective Nick Chambers as he tracks down a missing man with only a single lead to work from - a photograph of his grinning quarry. Without even a name to go on, Nick begins a citywide hunt for this mysterious missing person, but finds more questions than answers. Based on the short story written by Keoni Chavez, originally published in the anthology “Fog City Nocturne”, The Smiling Man pays loving homage to the classic detective films of the forties, while adding a decidedly post-modern slant.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The centerpiece of the evening will be two screenings of “The Smiling Man”, each lasting 37 minutes, once in vintage black and white, and later in color. Many members of the cast and crew will be on hand to share anecdotes and answer questions.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Guests can compete in a “Liar’s Dice” tournament for valuable prizes. Refreshments will be available for purchase at 12 Galaxies’ bar, and we may have a surprise musical guest!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1940’s clothing is encouraged, but by no means required.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;“The Smiling Man” World Premiere and DVD Release Party
&lt;br/&gt;Tuesday, August 7th, 8:00 p.m.
&lt;br/&gt;12 Galaxies, 2565 Mission Street @ 22nd St., San Francisco
&lt;br/&gt;Open to the public, 21 and over.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The 48 Hour Film Project is coming to San Francisco!
&lt;br/&gt;In a wild, sleepless weekend, you and a team will make a movie--write, shoot, edit and score it. From scratch. In 48 hours. On Friday, June 15th, you'll get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in your movie. By Sunday, June
&lt;br/&gt;17th, the movie must be complete. It will show at San Francisco's Landmark Embarcadero Center Cinema the following week.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Sign Up Now!

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;There are *three* ways to be involved:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1. FORM A TEAM. If you can rustle up enough folks to make a movie, great! The project is open to pros and amateurs alike. Just put together a team and register on-line at http://www.48hourfilm.com/sanfrancisco and then meet us on Friday, June 15th ready to go. There are only a limited number of slots, so apply soon...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;2. JOIN A TEAM. If you're interested in participating, but not by leading a team, you can still definitely be involved! There will be happy hours where folks can meet team leaders and join their teams, as well as other means to get in touch via our web site. Get your information to team leaders at: http://www.48hourfilm.com/join
&lt;br/&gt;...get your ear to the ground, by signing up for the San Francisco 48HFP discussion group at: http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/48hourfilm-sanfrancisco/ , an email forum for all short-film matters, networking, questions, services, etc.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;3. ENJOY THE FILMS. Come on by to the see the movies, and cast your ballot for the Audience Award. You'll be amazed at what your friends and Bay-Area neighbors can do! About a dozen brand-new short films will debut each night, screening at SF's
&lt;br/&gt;Landmark Embarcadero Center Cinema.
&lt;br/&gt;Our judges will select the Top 10 teams from the San Francisco 48HFP and invite them to compete against the Top 10 teams from the New York and Los Angeles 48 Hour Film Projects in the Visa "Life Takes" Invitational.
&lt;br/&gt;This special competition will take place in September. The top 10 teams in each city will receive:
&lt;br/&gt;•	$500 Visa Prepaid Card for production expenses.

      <title>CASTING: 1970's style Euro-Sleaze MOVIE</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/396b1c09-eeca-47fa-80fc-b219c7a477e7</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey-- I am a writer/director with verifiable IMDB credits (Malcolm McDowell &amp;amp; Faye Dunaway are in the last movie I wrote that was produced).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We're shooting a nunsploitation flick in a mansion (circa 1860) with a nefarious past in San Jose, Ca in July. It's low-budget but this is a PAYING GIG.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;It would be cool if you have a passing knowledge of the work of director Jess Franco - but that's not really a requirement. If you're interested, please send me a message &amp;amp; I'll pass on the cast breakdowns to see if you're right for something.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;AND- if you look like my ghost queen, the late, great SOLEDAD MIRANDA (that's her in the pic') and you speak English, I'll probably cast you.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This is going to be a really fun, extremely twisted picture...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks,
&lt;br/&gt;Brian &lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;The months following the 9/11 attacks I made this film about a fanatical Catholic boxer who confuses a drug-induced hallucination for a genuine religious visitation from the Virgin Mary. It got great reviews (see link below), went the film fest circuit but never got picked up for distribution (boo hoo). I will attend this upcoming screening and would love to talk to anyone about it there.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here's the basic info plus some links. I got permission to screen it in an old church which, after the lights go out, is a pretty amazing screening room with great acoustics. After five minutes, you even forget you're sitting on pews.

      <title>CALL FOR SUBMISSION: 2007 Anti-Corporate Film Festival</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/90ddb34f-9caa-4744-ae83-8afefc8d20f1</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;The 2007 CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film Festival is seeking submissions for this year's festival, which is scheduled to take place from October 19-21 in San Francisco.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The CounterCorp Festival seeks a variety of U.S. and foreign-made movies, feature-length and shorter works, and narrative (fictional) and documentary films (including animation) in both film and digital formats.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The only requirements are that they have some element or theme about how corporations affect our lives, and that non-English films have English subtitles.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;To submit a film for consideration, please download and fill out the 2007 submission form (www.countercorp.org/countercorp-festival.htm ) -- and mail it in with your film by this year's deadline: July 2.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;CounterCorp also welcomes suggestions for films that we should show at the Festival. Please e-mail suggestions to submissions@countercorp.org (or reply to this posting), and include as much as possible of the following information:
&lt;br/&gt;* The name of the film
&lt;br/&gt;* Approximate running time
&lt;br/&gt;* A brief description
&lt;br/&gt;* The director's name
&lt;br/&gt;* Year it was released
&lt;br/&gt;* Country of origin (and original language)
&lt;br/&gt;* Name of production and/or distribution company
&lt;br/&gt;* Why you think it fits in the CounterCorp Festival
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If we end up screening a film that you suggest, we will give you two free tickets to *any* film at this year's festival. (In the event that two or more people suggest the same film, the first suggestion we receive will win the tickets -- so e-mailing your suggestion is better than replying on Tribe.)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;For more information about CounterCorp or the 2007 Anti-Corporate Film Festival, visit our website at www.countercorp.org.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>looking for a film partner</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/c2591f17-474c-4386-bbe2-7e989cb1a7cf</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I have an awesome documentary idea, but I lack the technology and partner to film it. I’m looking for someone in the bay area. I have final cut, but no Mac, I don’t have a camera, but wish to use a DVX 100, (but I’m open to others). OH, and lights!! I don’t mind renting equipment, but if someone already has access to equipment, and likes my idea, maybe you would like to work on this project with me? My degree is in Apparel design, but as elective classes, I chose film and editing. I am sure I am not as experienced as many of you, but I’m not completely ignorant. I don’t have experience in Pro tools.
&lt;br/&gt;I picked up a great book on documentary filmmaking, though, I want to branch off from traditional styles. I hope to start in September, as I am busy putting a fashion show together for B-man. I would like to interview people from the bay area, but I also fancy taking a trip to NY for a few days to interview people there, (I have someone I/we can stay with). I want to interview as many people as I/we can, then use only the best of the best. I digress, if someone wants a fall/winter project shoot me an email. I want to take this seriously, but have fun, and would like to get it into an indie film festival.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Romantico theatrical in SF and Berkeley / Director Q&amp;amp;A's tonight</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/58a1e15f-40c3-4499-8d5f-b430fa905a94</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Romantico (www.meteorfilms.org) is showing at the Landmark Lumiere Theatre and Landmark Shattuck Cinemas beginning January 19th.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I will be doing Q&amp;amp;A's tonight, January 20th, in Berkeley (5:50 &amp;amp; 7:50 shows).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Synopsis: Romantico is an immigration tale in reverse. The documentary is about Mexican musician Carmelo Muniz Sanchez, who returns home to his young daughters after years away earning money playing the San Francisco taquería circuit. Once he returns to his hometown – a thousand miles south of the border – he finds himself confronted with the million reasons he left in the first place years ago. But at the age of 60, a border crossing begins to seem absurd...
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks,
&lt;br/&gt;Mark Becker

&lt;br/&gt;"A lovely, touching, moving portrait.... This man talks about his own life – his own struggle – and you get a real sense of his dignity and... that he is a genuine artist." A.O. Scott, The New York Times.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"'Romántico' is visual poetry on the run and, as any work of art does when it's successful, improves our perceptions of the world." John Anderson, Newsday.&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Casting Call for Extras</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/0ac255ac-87cb-4532-a55d-45e0b6c7a7a3</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Kelp Entertainment’s production of “The Smiling Man” is looking for extras. We are a very small independent group funding our movie out-of-pocket, and are shooting it on digital video in San Francisco.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We need a large number of people of any age, race or sex to fill out the backgrounds of a few key exterior scenes shot around the city. We will be shooting at various times of day, both weekdays and weekends, so no matter when you are available, odds are good we can use you. No one who can meet our criteria will be refused.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The catch: the movie is set in the late 1940s. All applicants must be able to provide their own reasonably authentic period clothing, and women must be able to do their own hair and makeup. Men must have appropriately short hair, and be willing to slick it back with pomade (available on request) or equivalent.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The only compensation we can offer is screen credit and a copy of the finished DVD, which should be available in the early part of next year. This is a great chance to get some exposure, break out those swing clothes that have been languishing in the back of the closet and have some fun!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;To apply, please send a photo of yourself in a late 1940’s outfit along with your name, contact info and an estimate of your availability this November and December to astrobeej@strafe.com. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.&lt;/div&gt;

      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/cada7437-10c8-4847-bd20-5be49bdd4b15</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Greetings fellow filmmaker peeps,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am currently in a film contest run by Apple computer. In a nutshell the company revealed a list of 11 elements on their website last Friday at 5:00 p.m.
&lt;br/&gt;At that point all registered film teams had 24 hours to shoot, edit, and score a 3 minute movie that had to be submitted into Apple the next day at the same time. Our project, Might of the Transit Employee is currently posted on the contest gallery! Here is the list of elements that we were able to incorporate into our piece.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;- Required character name: Alex Kona
&lt;br/&gt;- Required dialog line: “No, you don’t understand what it’s like growing up here.”
&lt;br/&gt;- Required costume: leather jacket and dark sunglasses
&lt;br/&gt;- Required prop: ice
&lt;br/&gt;- Required side kick: pet monkey
&lt;br/&gt;- Required setting: abandoned building
&lt;br/&gt;- Required makeup: fake eyelashes and blue eye shadow
&lt;br/&gt;- Required genre: sci-fi/fantasy
&lt;br/&gt;- Required editing device: musical montage
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Might of the Transit Employee is a mock trailer for a movie that tells the story of Biff Blazer, a full time MBTA worker, and how he becomes the unlikely hero who saves the day.
&lt;br/&gt;Here is the link to watch the movie.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;http://edcommunity.apple.com/contest/item.php?itemID=205
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If you like it won't you please vote for it! You'll need to create an Apple account (if you don't already have one,) but other than that you should be able to vote from the provided link. If we make it into the top 25 our movie will be eligible for judging from Apple's selected panel.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thanks for your support, it is greatly appreciated!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;~Emily ;} &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>One of us has made it on TV! 8/23(1pm) and 8/24(10pm) on CH27 in San Fran! Please watch and feedback!</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/6f2f07e3-c025-4c2f-9237-97b1042e95f5</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I am intensely proud to be a filmmaker in San Francisco, one of the most beautiful but hardest to live in ($$$) places on the planet. I believe very much that when ANY ONE of us succeeds, it makes it all the more easier for the rest of us to do well. We may squabble and clash and love and talk with each other, but we are all bay area filmmakers, and it IS us against the world. I have been blessed enough to make a program good enough to go on air, and I believe it has something to offer other filmmakers and media producers, particularly beginners. I thank you in advance for watching this, taping it, putting it on the internet, passing it around, talking about it, etc.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A 30 minute educational/documentary about my project 30 films in 30 days will be on Channel 27 on Wednesday 8/23 at 1pm, and Thursday 8/24 at 10pm. This airing is sadly only available inside San Francisco on Cable (EATV), but it has already aired 4 times on the 127 outlets in the state of California that are supplied by the CCCSAT satellite (we got picked up in April, aired in April and May).
&lt;br/&gt;I would be most grateful for viewers, and following that, any feedback that might make future projects quality.
&lt;br/&gt;This is a very exciting thing for all of us here, and hopefully is one of the many fractured introductions that Whaddya Gonna Do About It? Productions have been leaking out for the last few years.
&lt;br/&gt;Our first feature, which predates 30.30 by one year, will be releasing soon, so there is a huge amount of product in the pipeline coming out soon for those who like our styles.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This was a history making endeavor that has been universally reacted to with shock and awe. No one in history had ever attempted to make 30 films in 30 days, but we attempted and succeeded.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Please support this and forward to as many people as you can. A single shot is all most of us will ever get... I have been very fortunate, blessed really, to be able to achieve some of my dreams, but they need to be shared with an audience, and there is no better audience than that of my peers and fellow artists.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Thank you very very sincerely.

      <title>Book Review - Mind of the Modern Moviemaker</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/a786d408-1ae1-4c5b-9535-3ae31e50efa2</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm reading this book, The Mind of the Modern Moviemaker - 20 conversation with the new generation of filmmakers, but Josh Horowitz. It just came out in 2006 and is a collection of interviews with up and coming directors, including some really cool guys like Kevin Smith, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone. If you haven't seen this book yet, I would recommend it. It's an easy read and gives you an opportunity to get to know these artists a little bit as individuals. I've found it pretty fascinating to see how so many of these talented people have come up from such humble beginnings, how many of them basically say "When I started that film I had no idea what I was doing." It's actually quite encouraging to see that they're not gods, but normal people who had to leap some major obstacles (often surprisingly fast) to get the jobs they've had. Check it out. &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Help! I need A San Francisco DIVE BAR!</title>
      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/2a5fe61a-8d60-4ca2-8e6c-00d5e971c0f6</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;I need a local dive bar for a location for the no-budget noir flick I'm making. The film is set in 1947, so while I'm not being a nazi for historical accuracy, I can't use uber-modern places. The mood I'm going for is sleazy run down dive -- a local watering hole, not a high class place. The action follows someone as they come in through the front door, walk directly to the bar, take a stool and order a drink, and have a conversation with the bartender and another patron.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Features of the ideal place:
&lt;br/&gt;*Small, dark place
&lt;br/&gt;*Interesting bar and back bar
&lt;br/&gt;*Interesting entryway, both interior and exterior
&lt;br/&gt;*Pool table a big plus
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Deal breakers:
&lt;br/&gt;*Too many TVs/ TVs in prominent areas that can not be shot around.
&lt;br/&gt;*Modern bar fixtures like video games/microwave ovens
&lt;br/&gt;*CD jukebox in a prominent area that can not be shot around
&lt;br/&gt;*Neon signs or other promotional materials that are clearly modern and can not be temporarily covered or removed
&lt;br/&gt;*Distinctly Modern decor that can not be covered, removed or shot around.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm hoping to find a place in San Francisco, but for the *perfect* place I would be willing to go farther afield.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If you know of such a place, please, please, please drop me a line here or email me at noir@strafe.com &lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;Just to let you know that these guys ad BeatPick had a brilliant idea changing the way you'll go licensing your music for your projects (and in most cases saving you plenty of cash too)..
&lt;br/&gt;they seems to have recently started but they already have around 60 artist spanning all genres of music..
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;the cool thing is that you can listen to all the tracks on their site (full tracks, that is), decide which one you like and license it instantly online .
&lt;br/&gt;And if your project is non- commercial, they give it to you for free!!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I've used them already and since then i keep coming back....
&lt;br/&gt;Give them a try at www.beatpick.com

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Understanding the current immigration crisis requires more than can be summed up in one article or TV news segment. CROSSING ARIZONA - a hit at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival - is the only film that tells the story of how the debate reached the intensity it has today from the inside out, through an intimate and far reaching look at the debate as it has developed over two years at its hottest point - along the Arizona/Sonora border - providing context and depth to the news headlines.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Heightened security along the Texas and California borders funnels an estimated 4,500 undocumented migrants, most traveling on foot, into remote sectors of the Arizona desert on a daily basis. The perilous journey, which can take up to four days, has led to the deaths of thousands of migrants. The influx of migrants and rising death toll has elicited impassioned responses and complicated feelings about human rights, culture, class and national security. Through the eyes of frustrated ranchers, local activists, desperate migrants, and the Minutemen who've become darlings of the national media, CROSSING ARIZONA reveals the surprising political stances people take when immigration and border policy fails everyone.

      <link>http://bayareafilm.tribe.net/thread/33441f16-890b-4f40-90ec-6b9a005e57b1</link>
      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hi- I'm the producer/ co-director of the documentary, THE COCKETTES, and I'll be offering a workshop in SF in June through Film Arts Foundation.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;PRODUCING A FEATURE DOCUMENTARY: A first-hand perspective from filmmaker David Weissman
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Join award-winning filmmaker David Weissman, producer and co-director of THE COCKETTES for a weekend behind-the-scenes look at documentary production. Using THE COCKETTES as a case study, the workshop will follow a documentary from inception to theatrical release and international sales. Learn about writing proposals, raising funds, setting budgets, handling legal issues, acquiring archival materials, licensing music, plotting a festival strategy, getting distribution, and more!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This class is open to anyone from Sundance-aspiring filmmakers to documentary fans and counterculture aficionados.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;THE COCKETTES, a feature length documentary about San Francisco's legendary theatrical troupe of hippies and drag queens, premiered at Sundance at 2002, was released theatrically and for home video, has been airing on Sundance Channel, and has been licensed for distribution in the UK, Italy, and Japan. It was the recipient of the LA Film Critics' Award for Best Documentary of 2002 and nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in the same category.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;To benefit most from the workshop students are encouraged to watch THE COCKETTES beforehand, however it is not required!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Sat/Sun, Apr 29 &amp;amp; 30, 10am-4pm
&lt;br/&gt;Film Arts Foundation
&lt;br/&gt;145 Ninth Street, #101 San Francisco
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;member cost - $ 175
&lt;br/&gt;non member cost - $ 215
&lt;br/&gt;registration/ info: education@filmarts.org, or call FAF at (415) 552-8760
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"David's workshop was delightful and full of good info as well. So sign up and enjoy it."
&lt;br/&gt;-Barbara Bader (Filmmaker, Writer)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in taking their film to the next level. David learned his lessons well, and is really good at explaining the process in terms that even I was able to understand! I should also mention that he is a gifted storyteller as well. The behind-the-scenes tales of the trials and tribulations involved in getting The Cockettes movie made and distributed alone are worth the price of admission!"

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey all,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I just wanted to let you know about the 24th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;it starts on march 16 with the opening night screening (AMERICANese directed by Eric Byler) &amp;amp; Gala.
&lt;br/&gt;I just heard that this movie is selling very quickly, i believe the whole ground floor seating of the castro is almost filled up.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;They seem to have a bunch or really really cool foreign films like: WATER by DEEPA MEHTA (she will be there for Q &amp;amp; A after the screening, and her screening is actually the Center piece presentation! I also heard its banned in India), LINDA LINDA LINDA by NOBUHIRO YAMASHITA, and CHINESE RESTAURANTS: LATIN PASSIONS by CHEUK KWAN..
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;There are also alot of films that were made local filmakers like: COLMA: THE MUSICAL by Richard Wong, KIEU (one showing is already sold-out, so they are putting on a second showing) by Vu T. Tu Ha, JOURNEY FROM THE FALL by Ham Tran, and a couple more.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;To check out more info on this festival and its films check out their website:

&lt;br/&gt;Let's get a group together. Start a marching band. Build puppets. Get our bicycle friends together. Form a dancing troupe. Organize our kid's play group. Anything and everything!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Committed so far: http://www.lastnightdiy.org/who.html (We'd still like to see Samba bands, marching bands, more music, political groups, a coalition of homeless folks, art cars, zombies, pirates, more kids and parents, and more more of everything in our community)

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Topic: “What is Producing”
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Tuesday, December 13, 2005
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;6:00 – 7:00 PM
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Burk Hall 229 or
&lt;br/&gt;remote connections (internet):
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We will stream using Quicktime 7. Launch Quicktime, under File, choose
&lt;br/&gt;Open URL and type or paste rtsp://at1.sfsu.edu/Ujlaki.sdp
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Hello Everyone,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Once Upon a time in a Digital Village is a distance learning project that will be hosting Stephen Ujlaki, Chairman of SFSU's Cinema Department. I am organizing this event as a project for a graduate Distance Education class. All ITEC and Cinema students, along with alumni and others with an interest in Film Producing are welcome to participate.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;On Tuesday Dec. 13th, 2005 between 6 pm and 7 pm, Prof. Ujlaki will be giving a one hour intensive "What is Producing" seminar, during the 442 Cinema class in Producing Film and visual media. This is a highly sought after advanced class in the art, and business, of Producing Film and other media projects that are related to film and video production.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;If you have ever wondered what types of contracts, talent releases, and various waivers are needed to produce a film or documentary piece that can get distribution or be allowed into film festivals, then this is a rare opportunity to learn and ask questions from an industry profession. An industry professional who is the Chair of SFSU Cinema Dept. and dedicated to pulling away the "veil" of the Film Industry juggernaut's inner workings so students can approach their career with a solid knowledge of industry standards and not a pocket full of mysteries and rumors.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A portion of this project will be conducted in the Collaboratorium (Burk Hall Room 229) with students participating through two-way video and text conferencing. There will be full video and audio support in the Collaboratorium. To use text as a remote communication tool, we will be using Skype (if you want to connect remotely using Skype you will have to download Skype (from www.skype.com) and login use the Skype Chat utility) - we may arrange a second option also, email Robert (me) to get an update on this.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;To be included in this project please RSVP to; rlf4productions@gmail.com, as feeds will be limited (to the first 200 online participants), as will the seats at the Collaboratorium – we may arrange special seating in select cases as needed for those alumni and students who are involved with media production or who maybe for their work or program.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;***If you are a Tribe member note that (and which Tribe - ei.: Film makers, DV, editing, etc.) in your email and I will do my best to get you all set up. Please contact me before 3pm Tues. as I will be running through the spec. test after that time to see how our streaming video transfer rate is clocking, as well as testing our feed.***
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;A bit about film producer Stephen Ujlaki, chair of SFSU Cinema Department:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Stephen Ujlaki, a producer of more than 25 feature films, made-for-cable movies and documentaries, was recently named professor and chair of the San Francisco State University Cinema Department, named one of the nation's top film schools last year by Entertainment Weekly.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;As vice president of development and production for HBO Pictures from
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1983 to 1988, Ujlaki supervised script development, production and post-production for more than 25 films including "Baja Oklahoma"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;(Julia Roberts), "Last Innocent Man" (Ed Harris) and "Act of Vengeance" (Charles Bronson).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"Film production involves many of the same administrative, logistical and people skills: ensuring that financial and creative input into the screenplay is heard, keeping everyone happy without going over budget or hurting the picture, resolving conflicts, and maintaining strong leadership and direction," said Chairman Ujlaki.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Ujlaki was most recently president of Panarea Productions, where he produced such feature films as "Loch Ness" (Ted Danson), "Hot Spot"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;(Don Johnson, directed by Dennis Hopper) and "Courage Mountain"
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;(Charlie Sheen) as well as numerous HBO feature films including "Stiletto Dance" (Eric Roberts), "Xchange" (Stephen Baldwin) and "Hostile Intent" (Rob Lowe).
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Previously, Ujlaki headed the European Feature and Television Production division for Stone Group France, a production studio owned by actor Michael Douglas. Reporting directly to Douglas, Ujlaki was responsible for bringing productions to the studio, managing film budgets, overseeing co-production partners and managing all personnel and film crews.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"San Francisco State can be known as more than just the 'independent film school,'" said Ujlaki, who founded the film program at Franconia College in New Hampshire and has also taught at the American Film Institute and Brandeis University. "A degree in cinema could also provide a wealth of career opportunities in the film industry. If one does not wish to pursue a completely independent path, there are many other marketable skills that can be developed into such careers as writing, producing, editing, directing and post-production."
